Kenya wins Africa's Olympic scramble

Kenya's Wanjiru wins men's marathon
Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya won the men's marathon Sunday morning in an Olympic-record time of 2:06.32. Americans Dathan Ritzenhein and Ryan Hall finished ninth and 10th, respectively.

Clay achin' but brings home gold
American Bryan Clay entered the final event of the decathlon Friday evening with a commanding lead and tired legs. He ran the 1500m in 5:06.59, last in his heat, but it was more than enough to hold on for gold.

Richards runs down Russia in final leg
Wearing red singlets to honor the home country, the U.S. 4x400m teams owned the track Saturday on the final evening of track events. The men won convincingly; the women needed a rally leg from Sanya Richards.

Hellebaut's highly surprising
Blanka Vlasic came into the Olympics with a 34-meet winning streak. Tia Hellebaut hadn't jumped within three inches of Vlasic this year. But the Belgian pulled off a giant upset, winning gold in the women's high jump.

Hooker strong when it counts

Steve Hooker of Australia found himself down to his final jump on four separate occasion. And four times, he cleared the bar to win gold. His final height of 5.96m/19-6 1/2 set a new Olympic record.


JAM: Women mishandle, men manhandle
The women's 4x100m relay team from Jamaica failed to pass the baton Friday and did not finish the race. Shortly after, the Jamaican men's team crushed the field and won gold with a world record.
